Merlot, 2000

Collio, Le Vigne di Zamo - Vigna Cinquat' Anni

Merlot can also produce a delightful and intriguing pure varietal wine. While Merlot has a long history of use as a blending wine, pure Merlot wines have been relatively slow in gaining momentum in Italy. That too has changed and today some of the world’s best Merlot wines bear Italian labels.

Messias Port

Colheita Single Harvest Tawny Port

The Messias colheita port from the outstanding 2000 vintage has been aged in a barrel until recent bottling. The extensive barrel ageing has given this wine a tawny colour with an expressive nose of wild dried fruit aromas where blackberry stands out. On the palate, caramel nuances complement the dried fruit leading to a sweet vanilla touch. It finishes long with a persistent and fine aftertaste.

Pair this luscious sweet port with almond tarts or caramel and chocolate based desserts. Crème brûlée is a classic combination as is Stilton cheese. Hard cheeses such as cheddar pair well too.

Messias Port

20 Year Old Tawny Port

Simply the best value 20 year old tawny port on the market -
awarded an exceptional 95 points by Decanter

Reviews:
*** 95 Points Decanter Magazine ***
Very pale amber/tawny/orange colour. Fine and delicate aromas of hazelnuts and candied citrus. Quince marmalade character, delicate in style, with finesse and poise. Seemingly quite dry in style towards the finish (not as obviously rich as some here), and supremely refined. 18.5pts/20 (95/100pts)

Monferrato, 2000

La Spinetta - Pin

The Barbera is sourced form the Bionzo vineyard, harvested in the middle to end of September, the Nebbiolo in the beginning to middle of October; each variety is fermented separately for 7-8 days in temperature-controlled rotofermenters, while malolactic fermentation takes place in oak. The vineyard that Pin comes from was planted in 1975 on calcareous soils in Nieve. Maturation occurs entirely in new, medium toasted French oak for 16-18 months, after which the two wines are blended together and transferred to stainless steel vats for 2 months before bottling. The wine is cellared, in bottles, for another 3 months before release.

Offley Port

20 Year Old Tawny Port (Includes original Carton Box as illustrated)

Tasting notes:
With a well-defined tawny hue with orange-like hints, its aroma is intense and complex, with notes of vanilla, cinnamon, pepper, ginger, exotic wood, cedar, plum and hazel. On the palate, its fine structure and balance between sugars and tannins stand out. the finish is delicate and lingering.

Production method:
Hand-picked grapes undergo stalk-removal and crushing before fermentation, under controlled temperature, with skin maceration. The addition of wine alcohol at the ideal moment sets the balance between the wine's body and bouquet. Ageing in wooden casks in the cellars of Vila Nova de Gaia, the final blend results from a selection of wines between 15 and 40 years.
